Young adult’s patients with cancer experiences of their disease (English)
Abstract [en]

Every year about 600 people in age 15-29 years in Sweden diagnosis with cancer. To be a young adult and diagnose with cancer is a life changing experience and affects the daily life for the patient. The aim of the study was to describe the young adult’s experiences of their disease. The methods used in this study were a literature study based on autobiography. Five books were analyzed. Four themes emerged from the analysis of the autobiographies; experience of anxiety, the feeling of loss, experience of despair; experience of joy, hope and gratitude. This study shows how life changes when a young adult gets a cancer diagnosis and how it affects their living. The study points out how important it is for the nurse to have acknowledged about this special target
