Abstract [sv]

Background: The early relations are the most important relationship. The child is totally dependent of caring. A child being neglected during the early years suffers consequences for the rest of their life. Aim: The aim of this study was to find out about the promoting factors for mother and child attachment during the first year. Methods: A literature review was chosen for this study. The search of literature was carried out from the two databases Academic Search Elite and Cinahl. Nine articles were selected, studied and analysed by the authors. Results: The results of the study showed that one of the most important promoting factors for attachment between mother and child during the first year is the mother´s self-esteem. Other promotion factors are the support of the spouse, relatives and friends. The temperament of the child is important, an easy child makes the mother feel competent. A difficult child makes the mother feel incompetent and inadequate. The affirmation support from the nurse at the child welfare centre has a great importance for the mother`s self-esteem.
