This study examines if men and women have different conflict resolution styles in different situations. There are several studies in this area, but the results are contradictive and they don’t take consideration to the context. The study is an explorative, quantitative examine in the form of a self-report questionnaire, where different scenarios are described. These scenarios are based on the parts of the context that this study focuses on; the relationship to the other part, the perception of treatment and the place where the conflict occurs. 120 students from the university West have participated in the study. The results show that there, in some situations, are significant gender-differences in conflict resolution styles. In most situations women use the compromising strategy more often then men, who are more likely then women to use the competing strategy. Although, this area needs to be further examined, especially whit regards on that our society is in constant change, and whit it so are our sex-roles.

Den här studien undersöker om kvinnor och män hanterar konflikter på olika sätt i olika situationer. Det finns flera studier som behandlar könsskillnader vid konflikthantering, men resultaten är motstridiga, och de tar inte hänsyn till kontexten. Studien är en explorativ, kvantitativ undersökning i enkätform där ett frågeformulär med olika scenarier utformats. Dessa scenarier baseras på de delar av kontexten som studien fokuserar på; relationen till den andre parten, upplevelsen av bemötandet under konflikten samt platsen där konflikten utspelas.120 studenter på högskolan Väst har deltagit i undersökningen. Resultaten visar att det i vissa situationer finns signifikanta könsskillnader vad gäller konflikthantering. I de flesta situationer använder sig kvinnor av den kompromissande strategin mer än män, vilka oftare än kvinnor använder den tävlande strategin. Dock behövs fler undersökningar inom området, inte minst med tanke på att vårt samhälle är under ständig förändring, och med det även våra könsroller.
