Abstract [en]

With the need to transition towards zero emission. Mining industry is gearing up to limit the emission from the mining activities. Keeping this thing in mind, one of the ways to reduce the emission is changing the diesel-powered mining vehicle such as loaders, drill rig, dumpers to battery powered machines. However, some factors limit the fast-paced transition towards battery machines such as cost, mining environment, and safety of battery. Therefore, management of battery is extremely important in harsh mining environment specially keeping cell in optimum temperature range.

Battery Thermal management system (BTMS) plays a crucial role in controlling the thermal behaviour of battery during extreme environmental conditions. There are various method to cool the battery such as air cooling and liquid cooling and limit the cell temperature in a desired range. This report deals with testing of the liquid cooling thermal management system used in battery powered drill rig machines.
