The Influence of the English Language on Albanian Mainstream Music
University West, Department of Social and Behavioural Studies.
2025 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

My study investigates the influence of the English language on Albanian mainstream music and further examines what it is that is currently happening. To carry out this study, I used an analytical method that has features of both a qualitative and quantitative method.

The thesis is built on tables that are presented in the results. The material that is used for the survey is Albanian songs that have been taken from an Albanian top hit list from the year 2024. There were 40 songs analyzed for this study whereupon some contained results. The results that emerged in the study showed that the English language has an influence on Albanian mainstream music. What was found was a variety of words and English phrases among the analyzed songs that were used during the survey. The results showed that code-switching, neologism, and pseudo-loans occurred in Albanian mainstream music.

The examples are presented in different categories that show nuanced tables that confirm the idea that language changes are something that develops and changes over time and thus the topic will remain relevant.
