Abstract [en]

In an era where digitalization reshapes the landscape of industries, leadership in navigating the digital territory becomes paramount. This thesis delves into the realm of work-integrated learning (WIL) in shaping the competencies of leaders poised for the digital age, with a specific focus on Västra Götalandsregionen, Sweden.

The primary aim of this thesis was to examine the importance of WIL for developing digital leadership skills and competencies through analyzing existing leadership behaviors. Based on that, the research question was formed: How does work-integrated learning (WIL) contribute to developing leadership skills and competencies among leaders in Sweden, specifically tailored for the digital age compared to traditional leadership approaches?

Conducting interviews with six leaders across different companies, this study spelled out the profound impact of WIL on fostering digital leadership capabilities. By employing qualitative thematic analysis, key themes emerged, illuminating how WIL experiences intricately intertwine with the development of digital leadership proficiencies.

The results highlighted WIL's diversity and provided a foundation for enhancing not only technical proficiency but also the vital soft skills necessary for successful leadership in the digital age.
