Workplace communication in VR : Leaders attitudes towards leadership training (English)
Abstract [en]

This study investigates the attitudes of Swedish business leaders towards the opportunities and challenges of conversation training in VR.

The results show that leaders’ knowledge of VR technology is generally low, which may affect their attitudes towards the technology. The study also identifies potential problems with VR’s perceived legitimacy and technical sophistication. Leaders express a desire for emotional realism in the training environment, which could lead to hesitation in using AI.

Despite this, the leaders are positive about the possibility of training in VR, but see it primarily as a complement to other forms of training. The study also shows a need for leaders to train in stressful situations. The validity of the study is limited to the leaders’ attitudes and therefore provides limited insight into the actual possibilities with VR for conversation training.

Future research could include practical leadership training with a real VR application and compare the results with traditional training methods.

Denna studie undersöker svenska företagsledares attityder till möjligheter och utmaningar med samtalsträning i VR.

Resultaten visar att ledarnas kunskap om VR-teknologi generellt är låg, vilket kan påverka deras attityder till tekniken. Studien identifierar också potentiella problem med VR:s uppfattade legitimitet och tekniska sofistikation. Ledare uttrycker en önskan om emotionell realism i träningsmiljön, vilket kan leda till tveksamhet inför användning av AI. Trots detta är ledarna positiva till möjligheten att träna i VR, men ser det främst som ett komplement till andra träningsformer.

Studien visar också på ett behov hos ledare, av att träna på stressfyllda situationer. Studiens validitet är begränsad till ledarnas attityder och ger därför begränsad insikt i de faktiska möjligheterna med VR för samtalsträning.

Framtida forskning skulle kunna inkludera praktisk träning i ledarskap med en riktig VR-applikation och jämföra resultaten med traditionella träningsmetoder.
