Abstract [en]
Sustainability leaders create a new dimension of thinking, discoveries, and innovation that can rejuvenate the health of organizations, communities, and the earth. sustainable leadership requires taking a long-term perspective in making decisions, fostering systematic innovation aimed at increasing customer value, developing a skilled, loyal, and highly engaged workforce, and offering quality products, services, and solutions. The fashion industry has significantly been under the spotlight as a major contributor to the environment and social impacts. It is an industry often described as a complicated phenomenon driven by desire, aspiration, and creativity which operates within the praxis of technology, business, and art.
The aim of the study is to explore leadership perspectives and examines how business leaders work with sustainability as well as the challenges they face in the process. It also seeks to understand how strategies and initiatives implemented by top-level management influence and change organisation’s business to be more sustainable and competitive.
The study utilises qualitative research approach and semi structured interview was conducted with the studied organisation. Secondary data from company reports were used as complementary data.
The organisation under study has changed its business model and integrated sustainability into its core business strategy through collaborative partnership and innovative solutions. The matrix, flatter organisational leadership structure of the studied organisation has increased employees' responsibilities and capabilities. The organisation has also changed its business operations into a more sustainable practices through strategic competence management anchored on digitalisation, diversity, and inclusion Its business leaders face challenges such as technological limitations, information overload from regulatory bodies, and change resistance.
The study concluded that the studied organisation utilises collaborative partnerships and innovative solutions to become more sustainable and competitive. To strengthen sustainability initiatives, top-level, management in the organisation should underscore the significance of information sharing to improve evaluation and strategic decision making. Lastly, technological innovativeness and customer awareness is cardinal for the drive of sustainability transformation in the fashion industry.
