Ett företag i Trollhättan kommun vill öka säkerheten i sitt nätverk då de i dagsläget inte har någon möjlighet att styra vem som får tillgång till vilka resurser och att obehöriga enkelt kan koppla in sig i exempelvis en switchport och få tillgång till det interna nätverket. Före-taget önskar därför att i framtiden implementera någon typ utav autentiseringsmetod på nätverket. Metoden som framför allt är aktuell och som valts att kolla närmare på i denna rapport är metoden 802.1x.

I rapporten kommer det kollas närmre på vilka säkerhetsrisker företaget eventuellt kan vara utsatta för i dagsläget, vad som krävs för en implementering utav 802.1x, vilken metod som skulle kunna vara den mest optimala samt fördelar och begränsningar med autentiserings-metoden.

A company in Trollhättan municipality wants to increase the security of their network as they currently have no way of controlling who gets access to which resources and that un-authorized persons can easily plug into, for example, a switch port and gain access to the internal network. The company therefore wishes to implement some type of authentication method on the network in the future. The method that is mostly relevant and that has been chosen to look more closely at in this report is the 802.1x method. In the report, we will take a closer look at which security risks the company may be cur-rently exposed to, what is required for an implementation of 802.1x, which method could be the most optimal, as well as advantages and limitations of the authentication method.
