Bakgrund:

Den psykiska ohälsan är särskilt utbredd bland elever med autism i skolmiljön. Tidigare forskning visar på brister i anpassning för elever med autism i skolmiljön, vilket ger negativa effekter på deras psykiska hälsa. Med anledning av detta är det intressant att undersöka elevernas situation i skolan närmare, varför detta arbete fokuserar på just autistiska elevers mående i skolmiljön.

Syfte:

Syftet var att belysa det psykiska måendet hos elever med autism i skolmiljön.

Metod:

Uppsatsen är gjord genom en systematisk litteratursökning som gjordes utifrån databaserna Cinahl och PsykINFO, där både kvalitativa och kvantitativa artiklar valdes ut. Urvalet koncentrerades till artiklar som inkluderade elever med autism i grundskolan, med fokus på elevens perspektiv. Analysen skedde genom en tematisk analys av de åtta artiklar som den systematiska litteratursökningen sen resulterade i.

Resultat:

Den tematiska analysen gav två huvudteman med fyra subteman. Det första temat handlar om relationer som stärkande eller stjälpande för autistiska elever med subteman som dels fokuserar på den sociala utsatthetens negativa påverkan på det psykiska måendet och den goda relationens betydelse för hållbarhet och välmående. Det andra temat handlar om skolmiljöns brusiga tillvaro för elever med autism med subteman som fokuserar på de svårigheter som intryckskänsligheten medför i att hantera skolmiljön och anpassningar och strategier som verkar för att möta och stötta eleverna i skolmiljön.

Slutsats:

I detta examensarbete har det framkommit att elever med autism upplever högre grad av psykisk ohälsa jämfört med övriga elever i skolmiljön. Det finns ett tydligt samband mellan elevernas psykiska ohälsa och de brister som råder i skolan relaterat till att möta elever med autism. Det visade sig att det finns verksamma strategier som kan underlätta för eleverna att hantera vardagen i skolan, vilket ger dem ökat välbefinnande och bättre psykisk hälsa.

Mental illness is particularly widespread among students with autism in the school environment. Previous research shows deficiencies in adaptation for students with autism in the school environment which has negative effects on their mental health. Due to this, it is of interest to examine the student´s situation in school more closely, which brings this work into the well-being of autistic students in the school environment.

Aim:

The aim was to shed light on the psychological well-being of students with autism in the school environment.

Method:

The essay is made through a literature review where a systematic literature search was made based on the databases Cinahl and PsykInfo where both qualitative and quantitative articles were selected. The selection focused on articles that included students with autism in elementary school, with a focus on the student's perspective. The analysis took place through a thematic analysis of the eight articles that the systematic literature search resulted in.

Results:

The thematic analysis yielded two main themes with four subthemes. The first theme is about relationships that are strengthening or undermining for autistic students, with sub-themes that focus on the negative impact of social vulnerability on psychological well-being and the importance of good relationships for sustainability and well-being. The second theme is about the noisy existence of the school environment for students with autism with sub-themes focusing on the difficulties that sensitivity to impressions entails in managing the school environment and adaptions and strategies that work to meet and support the students in the school environment.

Conclusion:

In this thesis it has emerged that students with autism experience higher levels of mental health problems compared to other students in the school environment. There is a clear connection between the student's mental illness and the deficiencies that prevail in the school related to meeting students with autism. It turned out thar there are effective strategies tha can make it easier for students to deal with everyday life at school, which gives them increased well-being and mental health.
