Abstract [sv]

Upplevelsen av meningsfullt arbete är en viktig del i arbetslivet och kan leda till många positiva arbets- och livsrelaterade utfall. Tidigare forskning har pekat på att Big Five –teorin har en stark koppling till hur människor upplever meningsfullheten i sitt arbete. Mot denna bakgrund och även begränsad forskning inom området i Sverige var studiens syfte att undersöka samband mellan Big Five-personlighetsdragen och upplevelsen av meningsfullt arbete. En kvantitativ metod användes och totalt deltog 100 respondenter i studien. Studien använde sig av två validerade mätinstrument: IPIP-30 för att mäta personlighet samt ett mätinstrument skapat av Petchsawang m.fl. (2009) för att mäta meningsfullt arbete. Det insamlade materialet analyserades med hjälp av korrelationsanalys och multipel linjär regressionsanalys.

Resultaten från korrelationsanalys uppvisade att neuroticism hade ett negativt statistiskt signifikant samband med meningsfullt arbete (r= -.34), medan extraversion visade ett positivt statistiskt signifikant samband (r= .35) och samvetsgrannhet visade ett positivt statistiskt signifikant samband (r= .39). Efter regressionsanalysen var det endast samvetsgrannhet som uppvisade statistisk signifikans. Studiens resultat tyder på att personlighetsdraget samvetsgrannhet kan ha betydelse och vara en prediktor för upplevelsen av meningsfullt arbete.

Abstract [en]

The experience of meaningful work is an important aspect of working life and can lead to many positive work- and life-related outcomes. Previous research has indicated that the Big Five theory has a strong connection to how people experience the meaningfulness of their work. Against this background, and given the limited research in the area in Sweden, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between the Big Five personality traits and the experience of meaningful work.

A quantitative method was used, and a total of 100 respondents participated in the study. The study utilized two validated measurement instruments: IPIP-30 to measure personality and an instrument created by Petchsawang et al.(2009) to measure meaningful work. The collected data was analyzed using correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis.

The results from the correlation analysis showed that neuroticism had a negative statistically significant relationship with meaningful work (r= -.34), while extraversion showed a positive statistically significant relationship (r=.35), and conscientiousness showed a positive statistically significant relationship (r= .39). After the regression analysis, only conscientiousness showed statistical significance. The results of the study suggest that the personality trait of conscientiousness may be important and a predictor for the experience of meaningful work.
