Background:

As time goes by, more people choose to die in their own homes. This means that a lot of them will be treated palliatively at home, which is different from being treated in a ward. Nurses have a big responsibility when it comes to treating the patients' physical, psychological, social and existential needs.

Aim:

The aim of this literature study was to describe nurse´s experiences of caring for palliative patients during the last stage at home.Method: A literature study based on the analysis of qualitative research, where seven qualitative articles were read through and analyzed according to Friberg's five step model.

Results:

There were two main themes in the study and five subthemes. The results showed that the care that was provided evoked many feelings for the nurse, both positive and negative. Furthermore, support and collaboration from colleagues and the patients' relatives were experienced as crucial for palliative home care.

Conclusion:

Despite the negative experiences that come with working in palliative care at home at the end of life, the feeling of reward and meaning is what keeps nurses continuing their work. The study found that the collaboration between different health care professionals must improve. The nurses wish they had more time so they do not have to deprioritize other patients and can instead give the best possible care for everyone.

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur sjuksköterskan upplever att vårda patienter i ett sent palliativt skede i hemmet. I resultatet framkom att sjuksköterskor föredrar att en och samma läkare som är kunnig och har erfarenhet av palliativ vård stöttade sjuksköterskan. I resultatet framkom även att sjuksköterskans stöd från närstående är viktigt för att skapa en lugn och trygg miljö för patienten under den sista tiden i livet. Stöttningen från närstående kan underlätta arbetet för sjuksköterskan att planera för vården framöver. En viktig del av sjuksköterskans roll inom palliativ vård är att finnas där och lyssna och stötta både patient och närstående. Detta gör att sjuksköterskan skapar en stark relation till patienten och anhöriga, vilket kan leda till att känslorna blir starka och svåra att hantera. I resultatet framkom det vilka känslor och tankar som sjuksköterskan behöver arbeta sig i genom när man jobbar med sent palliativa patienter i hemmet.

Denna studie belyser palliativ vård ur flera perspektiv. Hemsjukvård, behandling och omsorg i den palliativa vården, hur omgivningen runt patienten utformas, och hur sjuksköterskan upplever den palliativa vården i hemmet.

Studien är en kvalitativ litteraturstudie, vilket innebär att författarna har läst artiklar som är baserade på intervjuer där känslor och upplevelser tas upp.
