Denna studie fokuserar på prästers yrkesidentitet inom Svenska kyrkan genom att utforska deras syn på uppdraget och deras självbild som präster. Syftet är att få en djupare förståelse för deras upplevelse av deras yrkesidentitet. Tidigare forskning indikerar att prästens identitet är intimt kopplad till kyrkan, församlingen och yrkesrollen.

Vigningslöftena och krav på representativitet är centrala för deras identitet, men kan också vara kopplade till psykisk påfrestning.I studien användes ett bekvämlighetsurval av präster inom Svenska kyrkan, vilket resulterade i en blandning av bekanta och obekanta präster. En kvalitativ metod, med semistrukturerade intervjuguide, användes för att fånga upp individuella upplevelser. Datainsamlingen genomfördes främst genom fysiska intervjuer och några telefonsamtal. Validitet bekräftades genom respondentvalidering och öppen redovisning av forskningsprocessen.

Resultatet analyserades utifrån en tematisk analys. Resultatet visade på tydliga likheter med kraven för prästvigning inom Svenska kyrkan. Känslan av kallelse och meningsfullhet, tillsammans med betydelsen av prästens roll som en del av deras identitet vilket speglar tidigare forskning och teoretiska perspektiv. Respondenternas identitet som präst är starkt kopplad till deras relation till Gud och uppfyllandet av kyrkans uppdrag. Denna integration av yrkesrollen i deras personliga identitet harmoniserar med social identitetsteori och tidigare forskning om formandet av en yrkesidentitet.

This study focuses on the work identity of priests in the Church of Sweden by exploring their point of view of the mission and their self image of being priests. The purpose of the study is to get a deeper understanding of how they identify with their profession. Previous research indicates that the priest identity is strongly connected to the church, the parish and the role of being a priest. The ordination vows and the demands of representativity is a central part of their identity, but it can also be linked to mental strain.

The study used a selection of priests that were gathered through convenience. This selection contains priests within the church of Sweden and became a mixture of unfamiliar and familiar priests. A qualitative method and a semi structured interview guide were used to gather the priests individual experiences. The collection of data was carried out primarily through in-person interviews and a few phone calls. The validity is confirmed by respondent validity and an open presentation of the research process. The data was analyzed based on a thematic analysis model.

The results indicated clear similarities with the demands on priest ordination within the Church of Sweden. The sense of a religious calling and meaningfulness, along with the significance of the role of a priest as a part of their identity is in line with previous research and the theoretical perspective. The respondents identity as a priest is strongly connected to their relationship with God and the fulfillment of the mission by the church. This integration of the professional role in their personal identity harmonizes with the theory of social identity and previous research about the construction of a work identity
