Abstract [en]
This essay analyzes the representation of women in female rap music from three prominent female rap artists. The aim is to explore whether sexualizing, objectifying, or degrading language is used against or in relation to women. To analyze this, nine songs were manually analyzed, and the most frequent nouns, verbs, and adjectives used against, or in relation to women, were collected. The most frequent words were discussed, and examples were provided and analyzed through a method of Critical Discourse Analysis. The findings show that sexually degrading language, sexualization, and objectification of women occur in the lyrics. The findings are discussed from a perspective of existing societal gender issues and gendered language
