Background: In the world, 55 million people suffer from dementia and 47 million of these people suffer from Alzheimer´s disease. It´s known to be a turbulent time for the partner through the process of examinations to diagnosis. Nurses have a responsibility to provide family-centered care. To do so, nurses need an increased understanding of how partners experience to live with av person with Alzheimer’s disease. Only then, nurses can offer the right form of support. Aim: The aim of the study was to illuminate partners experiences of living with a person with Alzheimer’s disease. Method: A qualitative literature-based study with ten scientific articles were included and analyzed with Friberg´s description of the five-step method and was answering the phenomenon of partners experiences of living with a person with Alzheimer’s disease. Results: The result were based on three themes and six subthemes. The result illustrated partners experiencing negative feelings and changes in the relationship, which included a challenging everyday life. Partners experienced how love and intimacy was changing and how strategies were helpful for a more manageable life. Conclusion: Partners experiences of living with a person with Alzheimer´s disease is important knowledge to be able to offer family-centred care. Nurses will be able to give support and comfort to the partners with the aim to decrease suffering.
