Abstract [en]

This study delves into the recent "آزادی زندگی زن "movement, translating to "Woman-Life-Freedom," examining it through the lens of news organizations.

The primary objective of this thesis is to meticulously examine the contrasting dynamics that prevail between government-controlled news media and media outlets affiliated with the opposition outside Iran. The central focus of analysis lies in the comprehensive deconstruction of the discrepant framing of identical news events that unfolded during the initial hundred days following the passing of Mahsa Amini in Iran. It is noteworthy that the narratives disseminated by governmental media and oppositional media exhibited pronounced disparities, all of which unfolded within the broader context of the ongoing Iranian Revolution driven by women.

Employing a comparative case study methodology, this research rigorously scrutinizes a singular case through the application of qualitative content analysis. The central theoretical framework underpinning this research is Entman's framing theory, bolstered by the incorporation of one supplementary theory: the Madonna/Whore complex theory. The application of the Madonna/Whore complex theory aims to bring to light the intrinsic motivations that inform the government's approach towards women.
