Bakgrund: Kvinnor med missbruksproblematik har större risk att hamna i utsatthet i samhället. Orsaken kan vara att kvinnans upplevelse av utanförskap kan bidra till psykiska, fysiska och sociala besvär. Missbruk resulterar i ökad sårbarhet, vilket kan leda till återfall i missbruk. Skadliga substanser skadar hjärnan och försämrar den kroppsliga funktionen. Detta innebär att kvinnans verklighetsuppfattning kan uppfattas som annorlunda till skillnad från någon som inte har en missbruksproblematik. Det är därför av vikt att ha kunskap om och förståelse för kvinnor med missbruksproblematik som är blivande mödrar.

Syfte: Syftet var att belysa kvinnors upplevelser av att ha en missbruksproblematik i relation till det kommande moderskapet. 

Metod: En litteraturstudie användes som metod. Fokus låg på att samla in vetenskapliga artiklar. Artiklarna var baserade på kvalitativ forskning, för att fånga kvinnans perspektiv av sitt missbruk. En systematisk litteratursökning utfördes i databaserna Cinahl och Pubmed och resulterade i elva vetenskapliga artiklar som användes i resultat.

Resultat: Två huvudteman formades, “hopp om förändring” och “rädslan av att misslyckas” med tillhörande fyra subteman, “en andra chans”, “skuld och skam”, “känslomässiga svårigheter i modersrollen" och “bemötandet av vårdpersonal”. 

Konklusion: Det upplevs finnas ett stigma mot kvinnor som har missbruksproblematik. Dessa kvinnor tenderar att bli negativt bemötta av samhället på grund av sitt missbruk. Förväntningar på att bibehålla drogfrihet prioriteras bland utomstående personer, men kvinnornas prioritet tenderar att ligga i att prestera i sin roll som mamma. Det är därför av vikt att hitta möjliga åtgärder som kan hjälpa kvinnan med att få rätt stöd och behandling för sin missbruksproblematik och i det blivande moderskapet. 

Background: Women with substance abuse problems have a greater risk of being vulnerable in society. The reason may be that the woman's experience of exclusion can contribute to mental, physical, and social problems. Abuse results in increased vulnerability, which can lead to relapses. Harmful substances damage the brain and impair bodily function. This means that the woman's perception of reality can be perceived as different from someone who does not have an addiction problem. It is therefore important to have knowledge of and understanding of women with substance abuse problems who are becoming a mother.

Aim: The aim was to illuminate women's experiences of having a substance use problem in relations to the upcoming motherhood. 

Method: A literature review was used as a method. The focus was on collecting scientific articles. The articles were qualitative to capture the woman's own perspective of her addiction. A systematic literature search was performed in the databases Cinahl and Pubmed and resulted in eleven scientific articles that were used for the result.

Results: Two main themes were formed, “hope for change” and “fear of failure” with four associated sub-themes, "a second chance", "guilt and shame", "emotional difficulties in the mother's role" and "the treatment of healthcare professionals".

Conclusion: There is perceived to be a stigma among women with an addiction problem. These women tend to be treated negatively by the society, due to their addiction problem. Expectations in maintaining a drug-free status are prioritized among outsiders, but the woman's priority tends to lie in performing in their role as mothers. Therefore, it is important to allocate resources that can help the woman get the right support and treatment for the substance use problem for their upcoming motherhood.
