Who thrives in the workplace? : A quantitative study on the relationship between personality and job satisfaction (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Personality and job satisfaction are key areas in occupational psychology that can contribute to a better understanding of how employees behave within the organization. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the two phenomena, this is because it is relevant to know who thrives within the organization and who does not. To investigate this, a quantitative method was applied in the form of an online survey sent out on social media (N = 187). The survey consisted of questions taken from the IPIP-30-NEO, for personality, and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, for job satisfaction. Personality was studied using the five-factor model consisting of the personality traits extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness. The final results showed that the personality trait conscientiousness was most positively correlated with job satisfaction and neuroticism was found to be negatively correlated. The study can thus be used to understand who will thrive in the workplace and further knowledge regarding recruitment and staff development
