In this study, I will discuss the role of NGOs in Egypt in promoting and striving for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. To do this, this study examines NGOs' challenges and limitations in promoting and protecting human rights in Egypt between 2000 and 2010.
This study adopts a theoretical framework combining Social Movement Theory and Political Opportunity Theory. My thesis is based on data from the official annual Human rights watch reports regarding NGOs promoting and striving for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Egypt. By examining the interplay of various factors, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and limitations NGOs experienced in their efforts to promote and protect human rights in Egypt during 2000-2010. The results of this study may have important implications for policymakers and civil society actors working on human rights issues in Egypt and other countries with similar political and social contexts.
