Abstract [en]

The Covid-19 pandemic caused a series of consequences for the educational environment. Teachers who normally taught in traditional physical classrooms now had to move to digital online classrooms thus they had to change their ways of teaching to fit the new environment. The purpose of this thesis is to identify how the distance education form affected the teacher leadership. In order to identify and research the possibilities and challenges that the digitally mediated education brought to teacher leadership, eleven university teachers who had taught in classrooms before and during the pandemic were interviewed. Two main dimensions were identified from the empirical data and were analysed using athematic analysis. The first theme is being the teachers leadership duties, the second being the effects of forced distance education. The teachers leadership duties consisted of five sub-themes: individualisation, planning, control, motivation and grouping. The effects of forced distance education consists of three sub-themes: student contact, technology and psychosocial wellbeing. Conclusively all dimensions were affected negatively by the enforced distance education whereas the challenges far outweigh the possibilities. The primary factors that affected teacher leadership negatively were the loss of control and student contact. These factors are the base of all of the other themes and they are all affected negatively when the aforementioned two are lost.

Coronapandemin medförde konsekvenser inom lärandesektorn och lärare tvingades ändra sitt sätt att leda sina studenter eftersom att både pedagogiken och ledarskapet på distans är annorlunda från det traditionella på plats. Syftet med denna uppsats är att identifiera vilka effekter distansundervisning har på lärarledarskapet. För att undersöka vilka möjligheter och hinder teknikmedierad undervisning haft på lärarledarskapet intervjuades elva lärare som undervisat på universitet innan och under Coronapandemin. Två huvudområden identifierades utifrån empirin i en tematisk analys. Det första området blev lärarens ledaruppgifter vilket består av temaområdena individualisering, planering, kontroll, motivation och gruppering. Det andra huvudområdet blev effekter av påtvingad distansundervisning vilket består av temaområdena studentkontakt, teknik och psykosocialt välmående. Slutsatsen är att samtliga områden påverkades av teknikmedierad undervisning varav utmaningarna övervägde möjligheterna. Den främsta faktorn till att lärarledarskapet blev negativt påverkat beror på förlorandet av studentkontakt samt en minskad kontroll.
