Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Employees are currently searching for workplaces that can provide more than just salary. Learning, meaningfulness, enjoyment of life and social relationships are considered to be increasingly important in today's working life, which are also significant components within the concept of flourishing. Individuals who possess high levels of flourishing are also assumed to share knowledge with their colleagues to a greater extent, which is part of informal learning.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between flourishing and informal learning.

Method and material: To carry out the study, a quantitative method in the form of a convenience sample has been used. A total of 172 respondents have participated in the study and data has been collected in the form of questionnaires. A multiple regression analysis with 5000 bootstrapiterations was used to study this correlation while controlling for background variables. The survey is based on questions taken from Learning potential of the workplace (LPW), Secure Flourish Index (SFI) and Sovereign Wellbeing Index (SWI).

Results: The results in this study presents a weak positive correlation between flourishing and informal learning, even after the result was controlled for; work engagement, employment rate, staff responsibility, physical exercise and satisfaction with number of hours of sleep. The results from our survey can provide indications of what organizations should be aware of in order to promote work productivity. Flourishing and informal learning are such aspects, as they can contribute to the development of both organizations and their employees.
