Spine-Leaf med VXLAN, how hard can it be? (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This report aimed to investigate how difficult the configuration of a Spine-Leaf with VXLAN would be perceived to be by students schooled on the hierarchical CDA network model. Instead of using the help of a ACI controller, everything will be configured manually, and connectivity verified through ping and traceroute in each topology. The study also aims to investigate the protocols used and the number of configuration lines required to establish connectivity in the Spine-Leaf topology with VXLAN and the CDA topology with VLAN. Differences in performance or load distribution between the different topologies will not be investigated. To determine this, two scenarios were set up. Scenario 1 consisted of Spine-Leaf with VXLAN topology and scenario 2 consisted of CDA with VLAN topology. The results showed that according to the measurements of difficulty, it was harder to implement Spine-Leaf with VXLAN than CDA with VLAN. It was also found that more configuration lines were required to establish connectivity for Spine-Leaf with VXLAN compared to CDA with VLAN. Despite the fact that the test subjects perceived VXLAN as more difficult, they agreed that it provides a more robust network with features superior to those delivered by CDA with VLAN.
