Abstract [en]

The workplace is a dynamic and complex social setting where social sexual behavior that is distinct from assault may occur among colleagues. Despite negative connotation of social sexual behavior in the workplace following the Me Too-movement, previous research has revealed a broad range of perceptions, with some employees enjoying it, some disliking it, and the majority feeling neutral about it. Through a quantitative approach with conveniencesampling (n=300) this study examines what kind of people tend to engage in, as well as enjoysocial sexual behavior (SSB) in the workplace. We found that overall SSB significantlycorrelated with Honesty-Humility (r= -.28) and Openness (r= .19), as well as Conscientiousness (r= -.16), gender (r= -.14), and Extraversion (r= .13). This indicates that lower scores inHonesty-Humility and higher scores in Openness are linked to a greater inclination to enjoy and engage in social sexual behavior. Regression analysis showed that sex in the presence of personality traits no longer was significant to overall SSB (p=.14), suggesting that SSB is more strongly associated with personality than with gender. Our study indicates that although the majority of individuals tend to perceive SSB negatively, certain personality traits such as lower scores in Honesty-Humility and higher scores in Openness are correlated with a greater inclination to enjoy and engage in such behavior.
