Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Work- family conflict (WFC) and family- work conflict (FWC) refers to the role conflict thatoccurs when the work and family dimensions seem incompatible. Within an organizationalcontext, WFC and FWC are becoming a topic with increasing interest due to its connectionstowards work- related outcomes. Through previous studies it also appears that this conflictcan be related to an individual’s personality. The purpose of this study is thus to examine howthe relation between personality and family-, work-related conflicts appears. Data has beencollected through an online survey which captures these two phenomenons. A total of 114participants, whose answers are included in several correlation analysis as well as a multipleregression analysis. The results show that the personality trait of neuroticism has the strongestconnection to both WFC and FWC with effect sizes of R = .28 and R = .26. This falls in linewith previous research and their results, thus agreeing that high levels of neuroticism co-varywith high levels of conflict and can therefore be considered as a risk factor.
