Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
The purpose of this study was to examine how staff that work at group homes for people with different disabilities work to promote self-determination among the individuals they work with, also how this differs depending on their intellectual, psychological, and social ability. This was done by relying on the self-determination theory and previous studies that cover similar subjects. The subjects of the study were eight staff members of different group homes that was interviewed. The thematic analysis resulted in four themes. Communication, co-determination, free will, and protection. These themes all include components that the subject felt were the most important or difficult when promoting self-determination among the individuals they work with.
