Abstract [en]

We have focused on three industries, brokerage, hotel, and restaurant with a focus on how the pandemic has affected profitability in each industry. To achieve the goal, we use quantitative and qualitative methods to gain a greater understanding of our research question. In the quantitative survey, the number of corona infected with hotel guest nights and the number of properties sold is compared using regressions. In this way, a clear picture emerges of how the pandemic has affected turnover in the respective industry. The result was that for every confirmed case of covid-19, booked hotel guests decreased by 15.6 nights. Regarding the brokerage industry, the result was negative, which was demonstrated by the fact that each infected individual brought 0.05 fewer sales. However, there was no current data for the restaurant industry, which resulted in only our qualitative method being the starting point.

Based on what the interview participants from the various industries told us, we concluded that the restaurant and hotel industry has been hit hardest by the pandemic. They have not been ableto adapt their business in the same way according to the restrictions that the brokerage industry has been able to. Our conclusion highlights that both the restaurant and hotel industries have been affected by restrictions, which has resulted in reduced turnover. According to the respondent, profitability in the brokerage industry has not been affected in the same way as in other industries. Here we see greater pressure on the housing market, which according to our interviewee is due to the fact that there have been favorable housing loans. Even though the government restrictions have not affected the brokerage industry to the same extent
