Abstract [en]
This thesis aims to explore a WIL-master student’s identities and negotiated roles during WIL internship. The study complicates researcher´s positionality during WIL internship and rejects the over simplified insider/outsider dichotomy. I use autoethnography as a method to describe and analyse my personal experience of being a participant observer during a 6 month period (09/2021-03/2022) in a migrant led organisation where I have been involved in four different applications and co-creation of a proposal for a new communicational strategy for the organisation. I also conducted semi structured interview to analyse how a researcher´s identity was understood within the organisation. The framework used is based on Bucholtz and Halls´s sociocultural linguistic identity theory. While I started with grounded theory during my WIL internship, I progressively moved towards to intersectional analysis. I focus on WIL masterstudent’s identities and how they may potentially influence AIL practice's as a whole. My ambition is to try, by emphasizing the different negotiation situations of both my macrolevels and more dynamic identities that arose during my WIL internship, making the importance of both researcher´s identity and how researchers position themselves more visible.During the analysis I found that during the WIL-internship I positioned myself but was understood by others in another way. With that knowledge I could rethink my own identity and try to learn how to emphasize the “right” identities in different situations.
