Background: Nursing can be an especially stressful time for newly graduated nurses in the transition from being student to independent nurse. It is known that they need guidance and support to maintain stability, wellbeing and feel secure in their professional life.

Method: Literature-based study with qualitative study design. Ten scientific studies were analyzed and completed.

Some newly graduated nurses considered leaving the profession due to lack of support. Guidance that creates support highlights the importance of support and reflection time between newly graduated nurses and their preceptors.

It became apparent that newly graduated nurses who did not get support felt scared, not being seen and alone. There are also some organizational limitations that need evaluation. Further research is needed to develop strategies to retain staff, contribute to wellbeing and satisfaction among newly graduated nurses and society.
