Abstract [en]
This thesis aims to compare how the eight (8) Swedish political parties in the parliament frame their arguments about NATO membership or NATO option. The framing has been made from the Securitization theory's concepts of “military/security,” “economic,” “political/moral” security and from the Framing Theory’s view of “problem definition”, “causal interpretation”, and “solution”. We have employed qualitative content analysis and the data that has been analyzed in this thesis has been three (3) parliamentary debates where the focus has been on the Swedish security order. On two (2) of the three (3) occasions there has been voting regarding whether Sweden should apply for a NATO membership or announce a NATO option. This thesis explores how Sweden's eight political parties have framed their arguments regarding NATO membership or NATO option from 2020 to 2022 and what the changes in their rhetoric have been in relation to the three themes.
