Abstract [en]

Food waste is an issue that affects every single person in the world, in one way or another. It is an important topic for people who cannot afford food, but it does not end there. Food waste is also a great threat to our environment, which makes it an important topic for everyone. In this thesis we wanted to shed light onto these problems related to food waste, by looking at the case of Sweden. As Sweden is an environmentally conscious nation, we were curious to see if the issue of food waste is framed as an environmental threat. With the help of framing theory and “What is the problem represented to be” we take a look into how the Swedish Food Agency represents this issue and what it does to combat food waste. We also talk in detail about the different issues that are connected to food waste, such as social and economic issues. Our findings show that the issue of food waste is indeed represented as an environmental issue. However, we look into other perspectives in which food waste can be looked at, such as social and economic. We argue that the environmental frame will predominate.
