Abstract [en]
This research project examines residential segregation in Trollhättan and the measures the municipality has taken to counter it. We are using a descriptive case study to understand how earlier reports and municipal policies frame residential segregation in Trollhättan when it comes to ethnicity. Theories such as Urban Ecology and neighbourhood tipping describe diverse types of segregation and situations where segregation occurs. We are also using the WPR approach to analyse how the issue of residential segregation is presented in Trollhättan municipality and why that representation exists.
This thesis aims to first look at the policies implemented by the government. We conducted two qualitative semi-structured interviews. One with an official that handles social strategy and sustainability in Trollhättan municipality and another with the head of social sustainability in AB Eidar. Bades on these interviews, we analyse whether residential segregation in Trollhättan is based on socioeconomic or ethnic reasons
.In Trollhättan, the focus lies on the socioeconomic aspect, while other factors are easily overlooked. Our study discovered that considering residential segregation from a socioeconomic standpoint has blinded Trollhättan municipality to other equally important aspects. While there are reports highlighting the significance of ethnicity, they are not reflected in everyday policies or even looked at as one of the contributions to residential segregation.
