Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The occurrence of long-term and negative perceived stress among university students can be seen as a problem that affects students' schooling, general health and quality of life. The purpose of the study was to investigate human resource students' experiences and management of negative perceived university-related stress during the human resource education program in Västra Götaland. The job-demand-resource model is partly the basis for gaining a deeper understanding of these aspects among human resource students. A qualitative research method was chosen where semi-structured interviews were used as tools. The interviews were conducted with six human resource students between the ages of 18-30. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed through a thematic analysis. The results showed that human resource students experienced negative mental and physical stress in the form of negative emotions and bodily physical reactions. The results showed that the most common coping strategies among the human resource students were problem-focused and emotion-focused coping. The study can provide increased knowledge about the subject, which may be relevant to contribute to universities’ stress prevention work for students and students’ own management of negative self-perceived university-related stress.
