Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine what a smaller selection of Swedish spoken movie consumers perceived as realistic computer generated images. Through a smaller quantitative study in the form of an online survey where the general public has an opportunity to answer a couple of questions, a group of ten people are chosen for interviews. These interviews lay the groundwork for the majority of this study and it’s results.

The study showed that a smaller selection of Swedish speaking movie consumers had different approaches when it came to what was seen as realistic or not. According to the respondents a key principal was the characters proportions, textures and the lighting of the characters. The study is focused especially on still images of computer generated characters from different movies, and the studies’ subject matter holds a lot of potential for further studies.

Abstract [sv]

Syftet med arbetet var att undersöka vad ett mindre urval av svenska film-konsumenter (personer som ser film ibland) upplevde som realistiskt datorgenererade karaktärer i filmer. Genom en mindre kvantitativ undersökning i form av en enkät där allmänheten hade möjlighet att svara på ett fåtal frågor valdes sedan tio personer ut för vidare intervju.Intervjun ligger till grund för hela arbetet och dess resultat.

Arbetet visade att ett urval av svenska film-konsumenter hade olika syn på vad som upplevdes som realistiskt och inte. Enligt intervjupersonerna fanns det flera viktiga beståndsdelar till vad som upplevdes som realistiskt, realismen hos karaktärerna beroende på karaktärernas proportioner, texturering och hur de var ljussatta. Arbetet fokuserar främst på stillbilder på olika karaktärer (där vissa är riktiga skådespelare och vissa karaktärer datorgenererade) tagna ur filmer. Det finns stor potential för vidare studier kring ämnet.
