Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease and steadily increasing globaly. Research shows that living with type 2 diabetes carries an increased risk of complications such as nerve damage in the feet and decreased blood circulation. This can lead to foot ulcers, which is a common complication and often requires long and troublesome treatments. This type of foot ulcer has in many cases a negative effect on individual's lives such as reduced mobility and social isolation. The aim of this study was to investigate individual´s experiences of living with diabetic foot ulcer caused by type 2 diabetes. This literature study is based on analysis of qualitative studies. Ten scientific articles describing individual´s experience of living with diabetic foot ulcer were analyzed using a five-step model. This resulted in two main themes and four subthemes, which described the experiences of limitations and changes in the daily life. This proved to affect not only the individual, but also the family. In summary, the experience of living with foot ulcers caused by type 2 diabetes was described as problematic, affecting all aspects of the individual's life. A recurring feeling in the individuals was the mental illness, but also the mobility restrictions that arose in conjunction with the foot ulcer. This resulted in a great need of support from family and health care to get through the everyday life. The individuals also experienced a lack of knowledge which was based on a lack of information.
