Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This is a bachelor thesis carried out by two students at University West. The study was carried out in collaboration with Creative Stuff AB, which is a company located in Uppsala. Creative stuff AB manufactures a unique type of anchor, which is used to anchor boats to cliffs at thesea. The anchor that is manufactured by Creative stuff AB is named Klippfast.

The goal of this study was to analyze and evaluate the anchor Klippfast regarding stress and strength. Another goal was to suggest a better design from a stress and strength perspective. Since the company does not have any drawings, the project group first made a CAD model of the product. This modelling of Klippfast was done by measuring and drawing curves that were difficult to measure, thus enabling us to sketch the product in the software Siemens NX. Solid mechanics calculations were also performed using finite element modelling (FEM).

The FEM simulations of Klippfast were made in the software COMSOL, resulting in evaluations of how the product deforms under an applied force.

The last phase of the study was to come up with new concepts of how the product could be better designed regarding stress and strength. This work was done by brainstorming sessions and sketching of concepts. The project group decided to pick three of those concepts that thereafter were judged to be the most optimal. These concepts were then modelled in Siemens NX.

The study performed was successful regarding analyzing Klippfast considering stress and strength. The results indicated that the model is well designed for boats up to five ton. The group also succeeded with the task to come up with new concepts with better strength than existing product.
