UX-design – Does the theories align with reality? (English)
Abstract [en]

The UX industry is growing more as well as the competition. The purpose of this study is to find out if the UX methods described in the course literature are in line with what the industry demands. In order to find this out, a content analysis has been performed on job advertisements, where requirements and tasks form categories that are then compared with course literature that is available in at least three different UX educations in Sweden. The empirical material has then been compared with relevant theories to get a picture of which methods and working methods are most relevant for a UX designer today. The theories on which this study is based on are design processes based on Rex Hartson and Partha S Pyla's "The UX book", where the relevance and steps of the design process are reviewed, and then supplemented with other theories about the process and working methods. The results show that most of the concepts covered in the job advertisement are more or less included in the literature and processes, tests, research that are the most frequent mentioned in the advertisements are described in detail in the literature. The main difference between the job advertisements and the literature is tools that are used in connection with sketches and prototypes, where the lack of information in the literature was not reflected in the results of the advertisements.
