The demand for organs surpasses the supply needed to save all patients on the waiting lists. But those who receive their organs in time also face many challenges. Previous research has focused on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and has shown an increase in HRQOL shortly after transplantation. The aim of this study was to describe the subjective experience of health after receiving an organ. The method used for this study was a qualitative literature review study according to Friberg's five step approach for the analysis. A total of nine articles with a qualitative approach were analysed. The result showed a complexity in perception of health in which numerous parts each played a role on the way towards subjective experience of health. From the analysis three sub-themes emerged: “The new body’s way towards health”, “To understand and evaluate health from new prerequisites” and “Being with others increases the experience of health” which together created the main theme: “The path to health encompasses a becoming and a movement in the pursuit of a new whole”. The result showed that it is possible to experience health even though obvious symptoms and complications post-transplant affected the patient. In order to experience health, there was a need for adaptation to the new circumstances that came with the transplantation. Although receiving an organ in most cases prolongs life for the recipient, it is not the same as being returned to a life free of disease. The motion between health and suffering becomes evident for the recipients while being with others and could engender meaning of the suffering.

Behovet av organ är större än tillgången som leder till att många tvingas vänta länge på organ. Men även efter att ha genomgått en organtransplantation står patienten inför en rad utmaningar för att bibehålla sin hälsa. Dessa utmaningar tar sig olika uttryck där vissa är från omgivningens förväntningar om att det nya organet är en fullständig bot och där andra kommer från individens egna förväntningar på livet efter transplantation.Denna uppsats syftar till att undersöka upplevelsen av hälsa efter en organtransplantation för att få en djupare förståelse för vilka faktorer som kan påverka hälsan. För att ta reda på detta valdes nio vetenskapliga artiklar ut. Detta urval av artiklar framkom efter en tydlig systematisk sökning där sökord och avgränsningar användes för att fånga upp kärnan i ämnet. Dessa artiklar lästes i sin helhet för att sedan analysera resultaten noggrant och identifiera likheter och skillnader. Ur detta material formades resultat och diskussion. Resultatet visade på en komplex beskrivning över hur de människor som får ett organ upplever sin hälsa. Detta resultat kopplades till Katie Erikssons vårdteorier angående hälsa och lidande, men även Lillemor Lindwalls teorier om kroppen. Även då människor hade tydliga sjukdomssymtom kunde de ändå uppleva hälsa och känna sig friska.
