Age and achieved stage according to the processability theory in writing : A quantitative study of SFI students' perception of grammatical correctness in writing (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Processability theory is a linguistic theory which is cognitive grounded. Cognitive processes are handled by the brain, and it is affected by biological aging. Does aging affect our ability to process in language learning? To find out a quantitative study was conducted in two ways on a number of adult Swedish as second language learners at different ages whether they achieve different stages according to the processability theory. One way of measuring showed no correlation, but the other way showed a medium strong negative correlation between age and achieved stage of processability in perception of correctness in writing. The absence of scientifically established guidelines for how to assess the stage of processability means that the results in this study vary considerably depending on the choices made.
