Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background More than a third of all women were exposed to violence globally. In Sweden, one of six women, had reported to experience violence in a close relationship. Violence in close relationships committed against women is considered as a public health issue and a gender equality problem. Women subjected to physical or psychological violence committed by the woman's partner could depend on a lower level of education, abuse, norms in society or religion and belief. It was important that factors such as family, society and individual level worked so that violence in close relationships could be prevented.

Aim To describe the supportive efforts of the community organizations that supported or took care of women who were exposed to violence in close relationships.

Method This literature study was based on previous qualitative research that had examined how professionals worked and experienced the encounter with abused women.

Results Two main themes were found. The results showed that the professionals who worked and met abused women felt that they did not have time, education and routines in the encounter with the woman. The lack of cooperation and clear guidelines was deficient and the professionals felt that they did not feel safe.

Conclusion Education about violence in close relationships were basic premises for professionals who worked with women that were exposed. Professionals needed to gain more knowledge in how to deal with women that were exposed to violence and become confident in conducting screening of issues concerning domestic violence. A more developed cooperation between the various agencies were necessary in the work with women exposed to violence.
