Bakgrund: Alla barn har rätt att växa upp i en trygg miljö som främjar deras utveckling. Barn till alkoholmissbrukande föräldrar riskerar att få en uppväxt som präglas av stress och bristande kontinuitet vilket kan få allvarliga konsekvenser för barnets psykiska hälsa. För att främja den känslomässiga utvecklingen är det viktigt att det finns en trygg vuxen som kan tillgodose barnets behov.

Syfte: Att beskriva barns erfarenheter av att leva med alkoholmissbrukande föräldrar

Metod: Litteraturöversikt baserad på fem kvalitativa och sex kvantitativa vetenskapligt granskade artiklar framtagna från databaserna Cinahl och PsycINFO.

Resultat: Resultaten visar att barn till alkoholmissbrukande föräldrar tenderar att få ett familjeliv präglat av konflikter, skadade familjerelationer och misshandel. Konsekvenser i form av psykisk ohälsa, stigmatisering och bristande motståndskraft. Resultatet visar även vikten av skyddande faktorer i form av att ha socialt stöd.

Konklusion: Barn till alkoholmissbrukande föräldrar löper risk för att utsättas för psykisk och fysisk misshandel. Hemmiljön beskrivs som konfliktfylld och känsloladdad. Upplevelserna karakteriseras av otrygghet och kan leda till konsekvenser i form av psykosocial problematik, låg självkänsla samt bristande motståndskraft. Viktiga skyddsfaktorer för att minska risken för negativa upplevelser är socialt stöd samt ett tidigt ingripande. 

Background: All children have the right to grow up in a safe environment that promotes their development. Children of alcohol abusive parents' risks having a childhood embossed by stress and a lack of continuity which can lead to severe consequences for the child´s mental health. To promote emotional development, it is important to have a secure adult who can meet the child's needs.

Aim: To describe children's experiences of living with alcohol abusive parents

Method: A literature review based on five qualitative and six quantitative peer-reviewed articles retrieved from the databases Cinahl and PsycINFO.

Results: The results show that children of alcohol-abusing parents tend to have a family life marked by conflicts, damaged family relationships and abuse. Consequences in the form of mental illness, stigma and lack of resilience. The results also show the importance of protective factors in the form of having social support.

Conclusion: Children of alcohol-abusing parents are at risk of being subjected to mental and physical abuse. The home environment is described as conflict-filled and emotionally charged. The experiences are characterized by insecurity and can lead to consequences in the form of psychosocial problems, low self-esteem and lack of resilience. Important protective factors to reduce the risk of negative experiences are social support and early intervention
