A correlation-study between personality traits and workplace bullying as well as conflicts in the workplace (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Conflicts and workplace bullying are complex subjects that, in the authors' opinion, should be discussed more. Previous research has shown that there is a connection between the individual's personality traits and conflicts as well as bullying in the workplace. This study aimed to investigate correlations between individuals' personality traits and how often they are involved in conflicts in the workplace, and whether there is a correlation between personality traits and workplace bullying.

The study is based on the Big Five model with a personality dimension added from the HEXACO model (honesty-humility) and has a quantitative approach. Using four instruments (Mini-IPIP6, ICAWS, NAQ-R and NAQ-P), a questionnaire was created in the form of a web survey which was shared. A total of 231 people participated in the study, of which 154 women, 76 men and 1 person who identified gender as "other".

The results showed that there is statistical significance between personality traits and conflicts as well as workplace bullying. The biggest correlations turned out to be between conflicts, workplace bullying and individuals who have more of the personality trait neuroticism, however, only weak and medium strength.
