Based on SVT News' usage of terms- relating to trade and consumption in their headlines, the aim of this study is to illustrate how these terms produce naturalized images of prostitution. By analysing the collected material according to the critical discourse theory, the connection between language and social structures becomes visible. Prostitution as a socially constructed phenomenon has always been recognized as some sort of business, with focus on the prostitute as a product or an object. By acknowledging that, this study aims to analyse how the language takes part of the positioning of prostitution in a wider context. Furthermore, the problematization of how the consumption-terms creates portrayals of prostitution and the involved individuals, comes from realizing that the image of prostitution does not always include any crimes, victims, or sexually abused children.
