The aim of this thesis is to study how immigrants participate in politics in Trollhättan, depending on whether they migrated due to push or pull factors. In order to do so, interviews are used as the method to understand how a single group of immigrants, who share the same background, speak the same language and have the same culture and religion understand political participation in Trollhättan and the comparison of these two groups if there is any similarities or differences in how they participate in politics.

Conducting interviews was the method of collecting data to this study. The informants were selected from a population which originates from one of the countries in East Africa and they all lived in Trollhättan.

The analytical framework is informed by the participatory approach. Understanding how immigrants perceive their political participation in Trollhättan and what political participation means to them together with the pull or push factors is the core of this study and how informants think and motivate their participation in politics.

The intention of this study is to contribute knowledge about immigrant's participation in politics in Trollhättan.

Findings of this research showed that immigrants actively participate in politics in Trollhättan, mostly through voting during the elections and by being a member of a political party which they support here in Trollhättan. Even though they are underrepresented in public debates, they find it very important to vote because it is a right they appreciate which they never had in their homeland they said, voting is one of the ways they show participation in politics in Trollhättan.
