Experience in palliative care for a significant future : From a nurse's perspective (English)
Abstract [en]
Background: Today, palliative care is a growing field in healthcare. Palliative care is an emotional field where many different feelings are experienced by nurses. The purpose of palliative care is to provide patient centered care at the end of life.
Aim: The purpose was to illuminate the experiences of nurses caring for patients in need of palliative care.
Method: This study is based on a literature review with qualitative articles, which in turn are based on the Friberg five-step model.
Results: The result is presented in two main categories; Emotional feelings and Nurses' prerequisite for good nursing. The results showed that nurses working with palliative care experience is as both energy demanding and sense of vulnerability.
Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that many nurses in this field do not feel completely well when working with palliative care. There were feelings that palliative care gave a lot back and to be working as a nurse was at many times demanding and often lonely by the patient's side.
