Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Several studies have been made about conflict style and its relationship to personality. However, these studies have not included conflict aversion. Conflict aversion is about an individual's dislike of conflicts. We used a quantitative method and collected data through a web-based questionnaire containing 63 items. Personality was measured with Big Five (IPIP30) and Dark Triad (Dirty Dozen) and conflict aversion was measured with selected items. There were 289 participants in the study, of which 61% were women. We found that high neuroticism could predict conflict aversion and that this was a strong association. We also found a moderately strong negative association between psychopathy and conflict aversion. Our regression analysis revealed that personality, gender and socioeconomic status during upbringing and today could account for 22% of the variance in conflict aversion. The results can contribute with additional information to the field of conflict management.
