Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

As far as we know there is limited research on the relationship between personality and the desired leadership of one's immediate superior. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is any significant relationship between employees' personality traits and what kind of leadership they prefer with their immediate superior. Data were collected through a web-based survey consisting of the instruments Mini IPIP6 and Leader Behaviour Description Questionnaire XII (LBDQ XII). These instruments measure the personality of the respondent's and how the participant assesses task-oriented leadership and person-oriented leadership, respectively. The study involved 227 people between the age of 20-68 and consisted of 84% women and 16% men. Data were processed through a correlation analysis as well as multiple regression analyses. The results showed that extroversion and conscientiousness were significantly associated with preference for task-oriented leadership. However, the relationship was weak, and these factors could only explain 4% of the total variation in preference for taskoriented leadership. The results showed no significant relationship between personality and preference for person-oriented leadership.
