Personality traits and work motivation as predictors of attitude towards work from home : A quantitative study on attitude towards work from home during the prevailing Covid19 pandemic (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Attitude towards work from home is something that, during the current covid-19 pandemic, has become relevant for organizations that have requested their staff to work from home. The purpose of the study was to see if personality traits or work motivation could best explain attitudes towards work from home. A quantitative method was used, and data collection was conducted through a web-based questionnaire and consisted of a total of 61 items using IPIP-30 to measure personality and WEIMS motivation scale to measure motivation. Four items were created to measure attitudes towards work from home (α = .89). A total of 234 people (M = 35 years) participated, of whom 207 (88%) were women and the average employment time for current work was measured to 3 years. An expected negative significant relationship arose between extraversion and attitude towards work from. Age also showed a significant relationship with our dependent variable. Two regression analyzes were performed where the model with work motivation together with control variables could explain 2.2% of the variance in attitude to work from home, while the model with personality together with control variables could explain 6% of the variance. Our results contribute to increased knowledge about what creates our attitude towards work from home, which is to the benefit of organizations. The conclusion is that extraversion is the personality trait that best explains the variance in attitude to work from home.
