Syfte med studien var att undersöka om kompetensutveckling hos sjuksköterskor kan bidra till en upplevelse av välmående i arbetet. Studien har haft en kvalitativ ansats och är baserad på åtta semistrukturerade telefonintervjuer. Analysmetoden som används är tematisk analys för fånga upp de individuella upplevelserna. Anledningen till att tematisk analys användes var för att fånga upp sjuksköterskors individuella erfarenheter. I resultatdelen beskrivs de beståndsdelar som informanterna har lyft fram. Dessa beståndsdelar har sedan analyserats fram till fyra övergripande teman med tillhörande subteman. Dessa teman och subteman är baserade på informanternas intryck av kompetensutveckling kopplat till deras välmående. I analysen har data från intervjuerna undersökts med hjälp av två teorier, KASAM och krav-, kontroll- och stödmodellen. I diskussionen belyses förslag på hur kompetensutveckling kan användas för att stärka sjuksköterskornas välmående på arbetsplatsen.

The aim to this study was to research if development competence among nurses can contribute to an experience of well being at work. The study is of a quality strategy, and the result is based on eight semistructured phone interviews. We have chosen to use thematic analysis as our method of analysis. The reason why we have chosen thematic analysis is because we want to capture nurse's individual experience. The result describes the elements that the informants have highlighted. These elements have been analyzed to four themes with associated subthemes. These themes and subthemes are based on the informant's impression regarding development linked to their well being. In the analysis part, data from the interviews were examined using two theories; KASAM and the demand, control and support model. In the discussion part explains the importance of competence at work, and suggestions on how competence development can be used to strengthen the well being of nurses in their workplace.
