Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur personliga assistenter upplever sin sociala arbetsmiljö, och hur den kan utvecklas. Studiens frågeställningar begränsade syftet till personliga assistenters relation till brukare, deras anhöriga samt assistenters kollegiala stöd. Som ett teoretiskt perspektiv användes Edgar Scheins organisationsteori om tre kulturnivåer.

Detta är en kvalitativ studie. Data samlades in via intervjuer som bearbetades och analyserades utifrån en tematisk analys. Detta resulterade i tre teman; (1) Brukarens hem men vår arbetsplats. (2) Att förhålla sig till anhöriga. (3) Samverkan med kollegor.

Slutsatsen som framkom var att relationen till brukaren var det viktigaste i yrket, anhörigas närvaro förändrar den sociala dynamiken och det finns ett behov av ett bättre stödnätverk inom yrket.

The aim of the study as to examine how personal assistants experience their social work environment, and how it can develop. The studies issues limited the aim to personal assistants' relationship to clients, their next of kin as well as the assistants peer support. The theoretical perspective chosen was Edgar Schein's organization theory of three cultural levels.

This is a qualitative study. Data was collected thru interviews that were processed and analysed whit a thematic analysis. This resulted in three major themes: (1) The client's home but our workplace. (2) To relate to next of kin. (3) Cooperation whit colleagues.

The implications of this study were that the relationship to the client is the most important part in the profession, next of kin's presence changes the social dynamic and there is a need of a better support system in the profession.
