The nurse's preventative nursing work with pressure ulcer (English)
Abstract [en]

Background: Pressure ulcers can occur in four different categories and are caused by different factors, such as pressure, shear, immobility or malnutrition. The nurse's task is to provide the patient with an oppurtunities to experince health.

Aim: To examine what nursing actions the nurse can use to prevent pressure ulcers at primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

Method: a litterature review was made. Sixteen scientific articles were analyzed. The articles were retrived from the databases Cinahl, Pubmed and Psycinfo.

Results: The findings were divided into four categories and nine subcategories. The categories were risk assesments, pressure relief, nutrition and skin care.

Conclusion: Nutrition was found to play a major role in the prevention of pressure ulcers. To best prevent pressure ulcers, more than one of the measures was needed, for example nutrition and skincare, as the body is a unit where diffrent factors are interdependent.
